Initially we planned to add information about the sun screen products we recommend on our skin care page, but we realized that this subject is too important to be overlooked. Therefore, this page is dedicated to education about sun care products and contains this link to our Word documents which are comprised of GoogleAlert article links relating to melanoma and skin cancer. In the News: Recently there have been some media reports in Australia highlighting the shortcomings of many traditional sunscreens. The reports focused on the inadequacies of these sunscreens in protecting from UV-A rays as well as the UV-B rays. Basically UV-B causes the skin to burn and UV-A is responsible for the skin cancer formation. Many of the sunscreens tested provided moderate protection against UV-B but failed to deliver in UV-A protection. UV Natural Sunscreen protects against UV-A, UV-B and UV-C Although ultraviolet C is the most dangerous type of ultraviolet light in terms of its potential to harm life on earth, it cannot penetrate earth's protective ozone layer. As the ozone layer is depleted, the threat of UV-C will increase.

When applied to breast cancer cells in vitro (test tubes), the following chemicals increased cancer cell proliferation/growth; and while these chemicals do protect your skin from sun damage, some experts have concerns about them. Clogged pores, breakouts, sensitized and irritated skin, allergic reactions are all potential indications of the chemicals found in many sunscreens.
In fact, one particular article by Professor Johan Moan of the Norwegian Cancer Institute (Moan, J. & Dahlback, A. The relationship between skin cancers, solar radiation and ozone depletion. British journal of Cancer, Vol. 65, No. 6, June 1992, pp. 916-21) makes the startling discovery that the increased occurrence of skin cancers is attributed more to the increased use of traditional sunscreens (with the nasty chemicals) than the depletion of the ozone layer. Professor Moan also notes that, “…Australia has the highest rate of skin cancer in the world per head of population, and that Queensland has the highest rate in Australia.”
So where better to come up with a possible solution to the problem than in Queensland, Australia… and by an all natural sunscreen company!
The research noted above indicates that it is not advisable to use most of the chemicals now commonly contained in sunscreens. The concern is especially relevant for those areas of the body (i.e. face and hands) that have likely already received greater UVR damage than those parts of the body that are usually protected by clothes. These chemicals also pose an environmental hazard…All four - particularly 4-MBC - have been found in fish from lakes where hoards of sunscreen-slathered people also swim!

Micronized zinc:
Assists in the growth and repair of skin tissue. Acts as a broad spectrum UV deflector. UV A, B, C.
Sesame Oil (Sesamum indicum oil):
A valuable moisturizer and skin conditioner rich in Vitamins A and E. High in antioxidants and assists in protection against sun damage. It is also a natural deflector of UV as it has a natural SPF.
Grape Seed Extract (Vitis vinifera(seed) extract):
Promotes cell repair, growth and is one of the most powerful antioxidants known. Increases Vitamin D production and assists in protection against free radical damage and conditions resulting from such damage
Green Tea (Camellia sinensis extract/(liposoluble):
Ranks up there with Grape Seed Extract as being one of the most powerful antioxidants available. An anti-inflammatory and a natural disinfectant - research in 1997 suggests that concentrations of the extract topically applied provided significant anti melanoma protection.
Grape Seed (Vitis Vinifera/refined grapeseed oil):
Oil Significantly more antioxidant activity than Vitamin C, E and Beta Carotene. Contains the highest amount of Linoleic Acid of all oils.
Macadamia Oil (Macadamia ternifolia (seed) oil):
Closest in comparison to the oil we lose from our skin as we age. Nourishes the skin and locks in moisture - replenishing fatty acids. Prevents and reduces signs of aging. Works in conjunction with the antioxidants to retain the integrity of the collagen and elastin in preventing wrinkles and aging.
High content of omega oils, nourishing to the skin and has a natural SPF. This oil is very rich and assists in nourishing and moisturizing the skin where sun damage may have already occurred.
Vitamin E (Tocopheryl acetate/copherol 1250):
Protects body tissues from breakdown and signs of photo aging. Excellent moisturizer and has scar healing qualities.
Iron Oxides:
Primarily used to color the sunscreen without causing it to tint the skin.
Bees Wax (Cera Alba(wax):
Used to assist in the water resistance of the sunscreen.
Candelilla Wax (Candelia cera(wax):
Used to assist in the water resistance of the sunscreen.
Carnauba Wax (Copernica prunifera):
Used to assist in the water resistance of the sunscreen.
Vegetable Oil:
We use a vegetable oil mix as an emulsifier and the main ingredient is safflower oil.
Caprylic/Capric Triglycerides:
Derived from a coconut oil source and used an emulsifier.
There are no chemically synthesized or extracted ingredients and all ingredients are either organic or natural!

What is the difference between UV Sport and UV Golf?
